A ton has changed since the last time we saw Auburn and Florida face off in the Final Four last April. Saturday brings their first matchup since that faceoff in San Antonio as both the Tigers and Gators are looking to secure their place near the top of the SEC standings. Which of these teams gets the job done in this important game on Saturday in Gainesville?
The new direction at Auburn (12-7) has seen Steven Pearl have some success in his first season at the helm. The record and overall success is clearly less compared to last year’s big run. The Tigers are hoping to settle into success after recent double-digit wins over Arkansas and Ole Miss brought them to 3-3 in the SEC. Great work by the offense has to be accompanied by progress on defense and Saturday presents a great opportunity for both to shine.
After issues earlier in the year, Florida (14-5) seems to be finding their own rhythm at the right time. The Gators’ loss to Arizona on opening night set up something of a disappointing nonconference run for the defending champions, though they’re playing much better ball in the SEC. Florida has won five straight games and nine of their last ten, including that thrilling win at Vanderbilt last weekend. Todd Golden hopes they can build on their recent success and be the top dog in this league again.

We’ve known all season long that Florida had one of the best frontcourt trios in the nation but the recent success is thanks to Fland, Lee, and the backcourt pulling their weight again. If Auburn is going to get a key road win, their defense needs to find a way to limit those open shots and opportunities. The Tigers know that when on their game Florida can really produce, scoring 90 or more points four times during this current winning streak. For Auburn to win they both need to keep up on offense with Hall and company while also limiting those second chance opportunities.
After their recent struggles, can Auburn do enough on both sides of the ball to pull a road upset and get back into the thick of the SEC race? Will Florida continue their winning streak against another questionable conference foe at home?
