An exciting and action packed Saturday gives us intrigue out of the Big 12 conference again and in this case it’s a rematch. Exactly one month later, Baylor and Iowa State will meet again in Ames after the Cyclones took care of business on the road back in January. Will this matchup turn out any different than the last time?

Big 12 play has been a struggle for Baylor (13-9), but the Bears are playing better basketball over the last week. After losing seven of eight games, Baylor has bounced back with consecutive double-digit wins over West Virginia and Colorado. The defense has been markedly better during this recent spurt, but it wasn’t exactly their defense effort that doomed them in round one of this particular matchup.

While they hit a recent bump, Iowa State (20-2) has gotten back on a roll again in recent weeks. They dropped a pair of games after a perfect 16-0 start, but this current 4-game winning streak has seen them blitzing Big 12 foes, winning three of those games by at least 30 points. The Cyclones remain one of the best teams in the nation with depth and strength on both sides of the ball while looking to just keep rolling.

Obi Agbim (11.5 ppg, 3.4 apg)

Isaac Williams IV (9.6 ppg, 2.6 apg)

Killyan Toure (10.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg)

Blake Buchanan (8.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg)

When these teams met up in Waco a month ago, Baylor had their worst shooting performance of the entire season. There is zero chance they’re going to succeed or thrive in Ames if the long-range shots aren’t falling. That first matchup was something of a defense battle as a result with Lipsey starring with a 24-point performance. With the way they’ve been rolling along, it’s hard not to see Iowa State winning and by a hefty margin. We really need to see something out of Carr and Yessoufou, as this Baylor team will only go as far as their stars will lead them. Anything can happen in the Big 12 after all, though this would take significant heroics and smart play.

Although the odds are clearly not in their favor, does Baylor have a realistic path to an upset victory and to get themselves back into NCAA Tournament talk? Will we simply see Iowa State continue their recent roll and smash another conference foe?
