When Selection Sunday concludes, we’ll be given an NCAA Tournament bracket that has a very solid number of Big 12 teams in it. Both BYU and Oklahoma State are hoping that bracket includes their names, though one of these teams is certainly in a more secure position. Regardless, this Wednesday matchup presents a major opportunity that both teams must not waste.

The large scale of BYU (17-4) and their work spell a very successful team that got off to a hot start, including a 13-game winning streak. However, the Cougars’ season has run amok with recent losses to top contenders Texas Tech, Arizona, and Kansas in the span of two weeks. Coming off back-to-back losses, this very talented lineup is looking to get back in the win column even in this road atmosphere.

A very strong start occurred for Oklahoma State (15-6) as well, though their work in the Big 12 has been quite alarming. They do boast impressive wins over Texas A&M (by 24 points) and UCF, but sit just 3-5 in conference play. The Cowboys are still looking to gain their footing and have already lost by double-digits in home games against Baylor and Iowa State. Surely they won’t repeat similar mistakes?

BYU enters play as a Top 25 team with legitimate dreams of a deep postseason run, while Oklahoma State is just hoping to hang on and grab one of those at-large bids into the Big Dance. Regardless of the difference between these programs, both really need this win. The Cowboys need to make a real statement in league play and have this great chance, especially if Roy and their playmakers play resiliently on offense. Frankly, that team just can’t compare to the three-headed monster of Dybantsa, Saunders, and Wright and it might be a long day for the defense if those stars get going.

Does BYU’s mojo change with this matchup or are they just headed in a tough direction at this point in the season. Can Oklahoma State actually find a way to hold serve on their home court and deliver a massive statement at the national level?
