One of the earliest matchups on Saturday afternoon directs our attention to Durham and an ACC showdown. Two of the top teams in the conference this season will face off as Duke welcomes Clemson to town, though there just might be a clear favorite in this matchup. Regardless, this result could really shape the ACC standings.
For some time, Clemson (20-5) was really playing great basketball, but the recent struggles have shined a different light. The Tigers have looked great for the most part in ACC play but lost a real stinker earlier this week, falling by ten points at home against Virginia Tech. Oddly enough, Clemson has won all six of their road games in league play and still sit 10-2, tied for second place in the league standings.
One of the nation’s top teams, Duke (22-2) recently had their own stinker by way of a buzzer-beating loss against rival North Carolina last weekend. Regardless, the Blue Devils sit atop the league standings at 11-1 and are likely favorites in their remaining conference games as they hunt for another league title. They’re also hopeful to get the injured Patrick Ngongba II back into action, though we’re uncertain if that’ll happen this weekend.

It’s hard to look at this matchup and find a way for Clemson to slow down Boozer and find enough offense to win this game. However, basketball isn’t played on paper and there are other things to consider here. If Ngongba can’t go, then Clemson really needs to focus their defense on slowing Boozer and preventing those second chance plays. Simply put, they cannot repeat the effort they had earlier this week and frankly they’ll need a bit of luck to pull off a shocker in Durham. The Blue Devils feed Boozer and get smart ball out of the rest of this lineup and they’ll grab another win over the Tigers at home.
Does Clemson have a realistic chance at pulling off such a monumental upset coming off a disappointment earlier this week? Can a Duke team not at full strength put their best foot forward and continue to prove that they’re the class of the ACC?
