As has been the case many times already this season, the SEC is giving us incredible matchups and this one just might turn some heads. Florida and Texas A&M will battle on Saturday evening in a game that likely goes a long way in determining the regular season champion in the SEC, with these two teams currently tied atop the league standings.
The defending national champions have had a few bumps in the road but Florida (16-6) has largely had another very productive season. The Gators dropped some real head scratchers here in league play against Missouri and Auburn but still sit in that great position at 7-2. Early backcourt struggles haven’t vanished but the strength of this lineup keeps getting the job done for the Gators.
On the other side, Texas A&M (17-5) remains atop the league standings even after a tough and hard-fought road loss to Alabama earlier this week. These Aggies have had quite the showing in these road games in league play while the offense has been operating at a very high level the whole season. Bucky McMillan and this program have seemed to find their groove and have a major opportunity to prove that here on Saturday.

The first question in this matchup revolves around Texas A&M’s bigs, because we already know all about Florida’s frontcourt. Can the Aggies get enough out of Agee and the rest of this lineup to slow down Haugh in particular, let alone the rest of this talent? The one thing that’s sunk Florida at times has been when that outside shooting has gone cold, but that didn’t stop them in a huge win over Alabama last weekend. In order to win this important matchup at home, Texas A&M desperately needs to control the basketball and prevent second chance opportunities. That’s easier said than done as Chinyelu is one of the nation’s best rebounders.
Can Florida find their way to the top of the SEC standings and get enough out of their backcourt to win an important game on the road? Could we see a breakout performance from one of those other Texas A&M starters and perhaps enough defensive intensity to contain the Gators around the basket?
