One of the most highly anticipated rematches of conference season is a big part of Saturday’s action here in the Big 12. Just a few weeks after their first matchup, Houston and Texas Tech will face off again in Lubbock with both teams sitting in great position in the Big 12 race. Which of these dynamic teams makes a bigger statement on Saturday evening?

The lone loss for Houston (17-1) came nearly two months ago against Tennessee in Las Vegas when those Volunteers were playing much better basketball. Since then, Houston has been elite on both ends of the court, running off 11 straight wins and getting off to this 5-0 start in the league. That included the victory over Texas Tech a few weeks ago and a few other marvelous performances along the way for these Cougars.

Revenge is clearly on the minds of Texas Tech (15-4), as the Red Raiders themselves have played inspired ball over the last month. They upended Duke in late December and have been electric on offense since, only losing to Houston in that span. The Red Raiders boast a sensational lineup and have been now run off four wins in a row, with the last 3 each by double figures against solid competition.

Milos Uzan (11.6 ppg, 4.1 apg)

LeJuwan Watts (13.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg)

Donovan Atwell (11.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg)

Jaylen Petty (8.9 ppg, 3.8 rpg)

Texas Tech boasts a dynamic Big 3, but it was actually Petty that led the scoring when these two teams faced off in Houston, a game the Red Raiders led in the second half. If they can get a better effort out of Anderson and Watts after previous struggles, then Texas Tech puts themselves in a great position at home. Clearly Houston’s defense will look to limit the Red Raiders in similar fashion. Neither team shot the ball that great last time around, with the Cougars hoping they can continue their recent hot streak and find a way to snag an important road win.

Anything can happen in this important rematch in Lubbock. Will the Red Raiders find a way to avert Houston’s great defense and grab another monumental victory? Do we see Houston continuing that dominant play and finding a way to get their entire offense firing once again?
