A busy early December Saturday kick starts with a major matchup in West Lafayette between a pair of Top 10 teams. Two brilliant unbeaten starts to the season are both tested as Purdue welcomes Iowa State to town for a highly-anticipated nonconference battle.
There really hasn’t been much not to like at Iowa State (8-0) across the early season outside of some frustration from the Players Era Festival. The Cyclones were perfect at that event, including a win over a ranked St. John’s team but didn’t quality for prize money or great placing. Instead, Iowa State keeps taking care of their own business, fresh off a blowout win over Alcorn State and are looking to make a major statement in their first true road game.
Fewer concerns are had for Purdue (8-0) a relatively battle-tested team that’s now fully healthy and looking for another major win on their early resume. The Boilermakers made a major splash in the Bahamas with that blowout win over Texas Tech and already have true road victories over a great Alabama team and Rutgers earlier this week. Matt Painter’s crew knows how to take care of business and is the #1 team in the nation for a reason.

There’s a gauntlet of college basketball action on Saturday and this noon tilt might be among the most exciting of the entire nonconference slate. The Boilermakers have already proven they are among the elite this season but Iowa State gets a major chance to punctuate that they belong. If Tamin Lipsey is back from injury then the Cyclones will be in great position… if they can get past Purdue’s elite frontcourt and playmaking ability.
