The Players Era Festival comes to Las Vegas and will give no shortage of exciting matchups. That’s certainly true in this matchup between Auburn and Oregon, two teams off to decent starts with high hopes for this season thanks to the talent and experience on these rosters, though this evening game on Monday night will tell us plenty about these programs.
It’s been a perfect start for Oregon (4-0), though this is the first time the Ducks are leaving the safe confines of Eugene. There have been certain difficulties, with closer than expected wins over Hawaii and Rice, but Nate Bittle and the rest of this group are starting to piece together the offense and hoping to have a team that can actually compete in the Big Ten in the coming months.
The season began with similar trouble for Auburn (4-1), who avoided a major upset on opening night when Bethune Cookman took them to overtime. The Tigers have slowly pieced things together in these first few weeks of the season, so much so that they took then-top-ranked Houston to the brink just over a week ago. The offense looks much better but injuries are playing a role in this tournament for the Tigers, who could be without leading scorer Keyshawn Hall.

Las Vegas provides the stage for a game between two strangely evenly matched teams. Even though the Tigers are the ones who have been nationally ranked, both squads struggled to open the campaign, haven’t been completely healthy, and are playing their best ball only most recently. Both defenses will have their hands full, though Oregon does catch a break that Hall is likely out of the lineup after his brilliant work early this season.
Who exactly has the real advantage in this matchup and can one of these defenses make the plays to make a big difference? Which squad gets their first marquee victory of the season and really boosts their resume to begin the Players Era Festival?
