Many great teams have assembled in Las Vegas for the Players Era Festival and gave us quite the show on Monday night. It’s the second day of the event and it represents a major opportunity for both Baylor and St. John’s on Tuesday, with each program desperately seeking this win for different reasons.
Expectations were sky high for St. John’s (3-2) entering the season, but the Red Storm have already lost to a pair of ranked teams in Alabama and Iowa State. No longer eligible to win this tournament thanks to Monday’s loss to the Cyclones, it’ll be interesting to see how Rick Pitino’s team comes out while hunting for their first noteworthy win of the season.
The early work at Baylor (4-0) has been impressive, and their unbeaten start to the season was certainly punctuated by Monday’s win over Creighton. While not the same level of team we though the Bluejays would be before the season, the Bears played efficient basketball especially on the offensive end and are looking to make even more of a statement on Tuesday in game two.

There are some questions about Baylor’s defense that will get answered one way or another in this matchup. The Bears don’t have a great interior defense and have to deal with the talent of Ejiofor and the rest of St. John’s talented lineup. The Red Storm have a deeper rotation than this new-look Baylor squad, but that doesn’t mean we should count on a bounce back performance or for the Bears to be overwhelmed or outmatched.
Can this St. John’s team rebound from yesterday’s disappointment and get what amounts to their first notable win of the season? Could the Bears continue a perfect start to this season by limiting the Red Storm and getting themselves a monumental victory on the resume?
