Just a few weeks remain in the regular season and this is another one of those matchups that could go a long way to determining the Big 12 champion. This Saturday battle will have major ramifications for both Texas Tech and Arizona, with each side motivated to make a big impression and solidify their standing in this conference.

There was a time recently when Texas Tech (18-6) was one of the hottest teams in the nation, though back-to-back losses to UCF and Kansas a few weeks ago dulled that trend. Regardless, the Red Raiders have some really impressive wins this season, notably knocking off contenders BYU and Houston in the last month alone. This team also just had their best defensive showing in a blowout over lowly Colorado.

When this week began, Arizona (23-1) was unquestionably the hottest team in the nation, but Monday saw their unbeaten streak end with a tough loss at Kansas. Elite programs have lost in Lawrence and it doesn’t diminish what’s been an incredible run for these Wildcats. However, it does give them extra motivation to get back on track and prove themselves in another ranked matchup.

JT Toppin (21.5 ppg, 10.9 rpg)

Donovan Atwell (12.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg)

LeJuan Watts (12.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg)

Motiejus Krivas (11.1 ppg, 8.6 rpg)

Ivan Kharchenkov (9.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg)

In their loss earlier this week, Arizona just couldn’t make an impact closer to the basket and had some rough performances from their usual stars. With Toppin roaming in the paint, the job doesn’t get any easier on Saturday, though the Wildcats do at least have home court advantage. Texas Tech has a significant challenge in one of the nation’s most hostile road environments and will really need consistent play from their guards in this one. If the Red Raiders can get hot behind the arc they can certainly push the Wildcats, but Arizona won’t be sloppy coming off a loss and will look to make a statement behind their home crowd.

Does Texas Tech make the shots and find a way to produce another one of the more impressive wins of the season? Can Arizona get back on track after this week’s defeat and prove that they’re still the team to beat in college basketball?
