Every matchup in the Big 12 can become a major opportunity and we know that both Texas Tech and Baylor are eager to prove something in this Tuesday showdown. One of these teams is on top of the world with their play in recent weeks while the other is trying to show that they can stick around and be nationally relevant this season.
The recent work from Texas Tech (14-4) has been impressive, as these Red Raiders are fresh off a 13-point win over a very strong BYU team last weekend. Their only blemish in Big 12 play was a true road loss at Houston that’s very excusable. Overall, Grant McCasland’s group is playing their best ball in recent weeks, including that win over Duke, and are hoping to continue that success here on the road.
On the other side, Baylor (11-6) isn’t quite a desperate team but they’re not trending in the best direction. The Bears have endured a pretty tough schedule to open league play but are coming off their third double-digit loss already during a 1-4 start. They faltered in their first two conference home games against Houston and Iowa State and face an equally tough opponent, with Scott Drew trying to put everything together for this new-look squad.

With the way these two teams have trended in recent weeks, it’s pretty clear that many will favor Texas Tech to take care of business on the road. The Big 3 of Toppin, Anderson, and Watts have been electric all season long. Despite Carr’s gaudy figures, Baylor just doesn’t have the talent or chemistry to compete with this kind of team, but let’s not count the Bears out. Their offense really showed out earlier this week against Oklahoma State and they can definitely win this game if that side of the ball takes care of business. Whether or not they can stop Toppin tin the paint may still be a major factor.
Does Texas Tech keep on rolling in the Big 12 and grab another important win away from home? Will the Bears find a way to contain Toppin and this strong Red Raiders offense and do enough to hold serve in Waco?
