Although these programs have only met 10 times throughout history, Gonzaga and UCLA renew what has become the best West Coast rivalry on Saturday night in Seattle. This marks the sixth consecutive season that the Bulldogs and Bruins faceoff at a neutral-site location as these two ranked foes aim for supremacy.
The season for UCLA (7-2) hasn’t exactly been outstanding but the Bruins have mostly done what they’ve needed up to this point. UCLA is still figuring out all the cogs on offense and dropped early games against Arizona and California. While struggling with those former Pac-12 rivals, the Bruins are fresh off one of their best performances of the season in an 11-point win against Oregon which gave them a 2-0 start in the Big Ten.
Despite the blemish on their record, Gonzaga (9-1) is one of the best teams in the nation this season and they’ve proved it multiple times. Yes, that 40-point blowout in Las Vegas against Michigan is mind-boggling, but the Bulldogs have double-digits wins over Alabama, Maryland, Creighton, and a handful of other teams along the way. This is a talented and balanced rotation with a slightly new flavor as Mark Few and company seek another standout season.

Seattle hosts the latest clash between these two teams and they’ve given us quite the battles in recent years, dating back to that insane game in the Final Four in 2021. However, times are very different and UCLA is still struggling to find their identity, even with Dent and the rest of the lineup back to full health. Gonzaga has made an early business out of thrashing opponents and are just about a week removed from that 35-point win over Kentucky. The Bruins need their best effort in this matchup to contain Gonzaga’s offense.
Does UCLA have what it takes to get a massive win for their early resume and further cement themselves as a Big Ten contender? Will Gonzaga simply roll to another significant win in what’s perhaps their final big test before WCC play begins?
