Two of the top college basketball teams in the country are set to meet Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. The UConn Huskies visit the Kansas Jayhawks in a matchup featuring the 6-1 Huskies on the road against the 6-2 Jayhawks.

UConn’s lone loss came 71-67 to Arizona in November. The Huskies have bounced back with wins over Bryant and Illinois. They sit among the four Big East teams with a single loss so far in 2025. UConn is scoring 82.4 points per game and allowing just 61.3. Solo Ball leads the offense with 14.3 points per game, while Silas Demary Jr. adds 12 points and 5.9 assists.

Kansas enters at 6-2 but has won three straight. After losses to North Carolina and Duke, the Jayhawks responded with victories over Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Tennessee during their trip to Las Vegas. They have done it without star freshman Darryn Peterson, who has played limited early-season minutes.

Flory Budinga anchors the Kansas attack with 15.8 points per game and a team-high rebounding effort. He is also shooting 62.8 percent from the field. Kansas is averaging 76.3 points while allowing 64.5. The Jayhawks sit in a deep Big 12 that features four unbeaten teams and four others with one loss.

What to Expect in a Heavyweight December Clash

This matchup has the feel of an instant classic. Kansas briefly fell out of the Top 25, but this remains a dangerous and well-rounded team, especially inside Allen Fieldhouse. Winning in the Phog is one of the hardest tasks in college basketball, particularly for nonconference opponents in December.

Still, UConn is one of the few programs built to survive that environment. Dan Hurley’s group defends with toughness, shares the ball well, and rarely loses composure in high-pressure situations.

Expect a high-level battle deep into the final minutes. If Kansas finds its shooting touch early, the Jayhawks have every chance to take down another quality Big East opponent. But UConn has the experience and physicality to walk out with a statement road win.

Enjoy what should be one of December’s best games.
