One of the top available high-major guards in the college basketball transfer portal is Jeremiah Williams, a 6’5 ball-handler from Chicago, Illinois. After two years at Temple and one at Iowa State, where he ultimately didn’t play, Williams spent the last two seasons at Rutgers.
He produced a career-high 12.2 ppg in 12 games, leading the Scarlet Knights in scoring in 2023-24. However, Williams's production took a dip this past season, even as a full-time starter, averaging 7.0 ppg and 2.0 apg on 45% shooting from the field.
Still, Williams is a veteran and capable ball-handler with a year of eligibility who can help with backcourt depth for next year. Reportedly, a trio of programs, including Seton Hall, Georgetown, and USC, were in the mix to try to land the senior. Williams decided where he’ll be on Monday night for the 2025-26 campaign.

Although they still missed the postseason, Georgetown was over .500 for the first time in six years at 18-16. Besides losing starting wing and leading scorer Micah Peavy, the Hoyas also lost starting guard Jayden Epps (12.8 ppg), who left via the transfer portal. The good news is that fellow starter Malik Mack (12.9 ppg and 4.3 apg) stayed, while the team also added a trio of impact perimeter transfers, including Langston Love (Baylor), KJ Lewis (Arizona), and Deshawn Harris-Smith (Maryland).
Williams gives the Hoyas multiple benefits in the backcourt. For one, he’s the backup ball-handler behind Mack, assuming he’s coming off the bench. He’s another good physical defender, which fits the other guards brought into the offseason. In a perfect world, big man Thomas Sorber returns to be the offensive focal point, with the rest of the lineup being elite defensively and giving the Hoyas a better shot at winning games.
Williams won’t make the top of incoming transfer lists for next season, but he’s a solid ball-handler to join the team and fill in the missing holes on the roster. Now, all eyes are on the pending decision of its star center.
