After making the NCAA Tournament this past season, Georgia Basketball experienced roster attrition like many teams. Star freshman big man Asa Newell is entering the NBA Draft, while seniors Dakota Leffew and Tyrin Lawrence ran out of eligibility.
The biggest hits came via the portal, including last season’s lead guard, Silas Demary. To Coach Mike White’s credit, the team has landed some pieces to the roster already, including 6’8 forward Kanon Catchings (BYU), former Wofford guard Justin Bailey, and Jeremiah Wilkersion, who averaged over 15 ppg as a freshman at Cal. And on Monday, the Bulldogs added two more pieces.
Jordan Ross - Saint Mary’s
- 2024-25 season stats: 8.3 ppg and 2.6 apg
The 6’3 guard wasa full-time starter for the Gaels, shooting 38% from the field and under 30% from three-point range. Ross had a trio of games with over 15 points, including 19 against Arizona State and 15 in the NCAA Tournament victory over Vanderbilt.
While Ross isn’t the most efficient scorer, he’s shown he can produce against high-major competition. He’ll serve as depth for the Bulldogs but will need to make the most of his minutes to warrant a consistent spot in the rotation.
Marcus “Smurf” Millender - Texas-San Antonio
- 2024-25 season stats: 14.9 ppg and 3.3 apg
The 5’11 ball-handler was second on the Roadrunners in both scoring and passing this past season, shooting 44% from three-point range on over five attempts a game. Millender had nine games of at least 20 points, including 25 in a road win over Rice.
At his size, Millender will have to play point for Georgia. With the 6’1 Wilkinson already on board, the team will have some smaller lineups out there. We’ll see if that hurts them or if the team is good enough on offense to overcome any issues.
With Ross and Millender on board, look for Georgia to add one more piece to the roster, likely in the frontcourt. They lost a lot of talent but have done a solid job at rebuilding to this point.
