2. Dusty Stromer’s larger role
The sophomore guard played a season-high 30 minutes in the UConn game, and Stromer’s minutes haven’t gone since, playing 26 and 27 minutes in the past two games. Coming into the season, there was a chance that his role would be limited, but Stromer will remain a focal point in the rotation between his shooting and defense.
Stromer scored 10 points against Nicholls and had three versus Bucknell, making 3/7 combined from deep. The sophomore quietly is shooting 45% from deep, up there with Hickman for best on the team. It’ll be interesting to see what his minutes will look like against UCLA.
3. Ben Gregg finally made the some 3s too
The senior forward had two good games off the bench, scoring 15 points against Bucknell and producing a double-double versus Nicholls. On the season, Gregg is averaging 10 ppg, including 13.5 ppg in the last six games.
Even more important, Gregg made 3/7 from deep in the Bucknell game. Entering the game, he’d made just 3/20 on the season. He’s still at 22%, but Gregg’s more than capable of making the shots on the perimeter. We’ll see if this is the start of a breakthrough.
