2. Michigan Wolverines

Likely departures

  • Yaxel Lendeborg (15.1 ppg and 6.9 rpg)
  • Nimari Burnett (8.3 ppg and 2.7 rpg)
  • Roddy Gayle (7.4 ppg and 3.3 rpg)
  • Will Tshetter (3.6 ppg and 1.9 rpg)

Likely returnees

  • Elliot Cadeau (10.3 ppg and 5.9 rpg)
  • Trey McKenney (9.9 ppg and 2.6 rpg)
  • LJ Cason (8.4 ppg and 2.4 apg) may miss next season due to injury

Roster additions

  • Moustapha Thiam (12.8 ppg and 7.1 rpg at Cincinnati)
  • JP Estrella (10 ppg and 5.4 rpg at Tennessee)
  • Jalen Reed (9.5 ppg and 5.7 rpg in 6 games at LSU)
  • Brandon Boston (5-star guard prospect)

Key decisions to watch

  • Aday Mara (12.2 ppg and 6.8 rpg)
  • Morez Johnson (13.1 ppg and 7.3 rpg)

The big storyline with the Wolverines is the status of their frontcourt, with a good chance that all three forwards will enter the NBA Draft. Lendeborg has no eligibility left, while both Johnson and Mara are currently projected as first-round picks. But the team already had backup plans, with Thiam and Estrella, two of the best interior defenders in the portal, set to join to create arguably the best defensive frontcourt in all of college basketball.

Even with Cason set to miss all of next season with an injury, Cadeau is set to return as the lead guard. McKenney will be a consensus national breakout candidate, while Boston is a five-star guard prospect likely to start for them next year. Other freshmen, such as forward Quinn Costello and guard Malachi Brown, should give them plenty of depth as well.
