BREAKING: Kansas has landed the No. 1 player in the country, Tyran Stokes.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) April 28, 2026
Stokes is a skilled, athletic and tough 6-7, 230-pound forward who chose KU over Kentucky.
Huge pickup for Bill Self and Kansas - which needed a big-time talent like Stokes.
It’s not just Peterson who is gone from the Jayhawks, as basically all of the main rotation pieces have departed. The good news for the team is that they’re replacing Peterson with another 5-star prospect, as No. 1 overall recruit Stokes recently committed to the program and will be the face of the team. Kinney, another top-10 caliber prospect, will also have a large role for them.
There is still more work to do, needing guys like Blyden and Reeves to be big impact players in the projected starting lineup. The addition of Stokes is good enough to have them in the top-25, but, as currently constructed, isn’t as good as the most recent version of Kansas Basketball.
