The Georgia Bulldogs is one of the best college programs on the football field, recently winning a national title. Their basketball team isn’t half bad either, earning an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament in the historically good SEC Basketball league.

The Bulldogs took on Gonzaga in an 8 vs 9 matchup in the NCAA Tournament Round of 64. Although the Bulldogs of the SEC are a metrics and analytical darling, this was supposed to be a competitive game, considering the seeding. However, it proved to be anything but.

That is a real score.
Gonzaga started out the game on a 13-0 run, with Georgia turning the ball over five times early. Gonzaga is one of the best offenses in college basketball, so their strong offensive start wasn’t a surprise. Though Georgia’s play on that end was a surprise, since they could barely get a shot off at times.

UGA just needs three touchdowns and a two point conversion.
It only got worse for the SEC team, as Gonzaga would race out to its largest lead of the game, 27-3 midway through. That’s a legitimate football score in games that would be viewed as blowouts. So, seeing this occur on the basketball court and in the NCAA Tournament was easily one of the biggest surprises on the opening day of the big event.
Absolutely NOBODY picked Georgia to beat Gonzaga in the First Round and we’re all witnessing why.

Eventually, Georgia’s offense got into gear, cutting the lead to 14 points, thanks to Silas Demary Jr. getting to the free throw line. Of course, Gonzaga went on another 10+ point scoring run to raise the lead back out, going up 48-27 at the half.
You don’t want to look ahead, but a matchup between Houston and Gonzaga could be one of the best ever Round of 32 games, with both teams in the top 10 in many metrics. As for Georgia, they could still come back, but this has been far from a good showing for the SEC program.
