North Carolina Tarheels - C-
UNC this past season was looking to follow up a very quality season after being a 1-seed in March Madness and making the Sweet 16. They got some good transfer commits and were looking poised for another succesful season. Sadly for UNC fans, the season did not go exactly as expected, having games where they would often find themselves down 15+ early, make an incredible comeback, only to fall short in the end. UNC did end up squeaking into the Last 4 In, but after a dominate showing against San Diego St they fell to Ole Miss 64-71.
Although the rumors of firing Hubert Davis were out there, it seems they've decided to keep him around at least one more year. This offseason, he has done a solid job recouping the roster, especially since they lost multiple pieces to either the portal or graduation. So far they lost RJ Davis after a very impressive 5 years at UNC, and in the portal they lost some key contributors in Elliot Cadeau who is heading to Michigan, Ian Jackson who is heading to St. Johns, and Ven-Allen Lubin who is going to their rival NC State. Luckily Davis picked up some quality commits in the portal including Jarin Stevenson, a 6-11 Forward from Alabama, Henri Veesaar, a 7-0 Center from Arizona, Kyan Evans, a 6-2 Guard from Colorado St, Jaydon Young, a 6-4 Guard from Virginia Tech, and Jonathan Powell, a 6-6 Guard from West Virginia.
While Davis isn't bringing in as good of a recruiting class as last season it is still a pretty solid class. The class is highlighted by the 5-star in Caleb Wilson, a 6-9 Forward from Atlanta, but Davis also got some commitments from a couple 4-stars and an overseas commit.
While this offseason hasn't been atrocious, with the rumors of spending around 14 million dollars on this roster it just seems to be underwhelming. UNC seems to be lacking their main guy this next season, and hopefully for UNC's sack returning Guard Seth Trimble can take the leap fans are expecting and become the guy for this team and lead them to a 7th title. It's honestly just hard to look as this current roster and be super impressed with the current contruction of this team.
