It’s been a rough offseason for the Deacons, with both Harris and Colvin leaving for the transfer portal. But nearly as big a loss as Harris was Quentin Coleman, a former commit to the program, parting ways early on before choosing Illinois. Now a five-star prospect, Coleman was a standout in the U18 Team USA squad in the FIBA AmeriCup, making that loss hurt even more.
The overall incoming portal class leaves a lot to be desired, with little proven production. The one bright spot is Kennedy, the MAAC Player of the Year as a freshman at Merrimack. Coach Steve Forbes has a great track record with guards, and Kennedy could easily lead the team in scoring.
But Wake Forest will need multiple surprises to emerge just to be competitive in the ACC. In what will be a vital year for Coach Forbes, it’s hard to be overly optimistic as to where the program is heading after this offseason.
