Coach Scott Cross takes over for the Yellow Jackets, bringing with him Valdes from Troy as the likely focal point of the frontcourt. Freshman big man Diop likely will start inside, too, but there are definitely questions concerning their interior depth.
The backcourt is where the potential lies. Both Garland and Whitlock are quality scorers, with Whitlock a March Madness star who carried Lehigh in the Patriot League Tournament. But both will have to be double-digit scorers out of the gate just for the Jackets to even be competitive.
Georgia Tech doesn’t have a ton of resources, but Cross did a solid job this offseason. The lack of proven high-major players is an issue, but for a program looking to restart, there are some building blocks to work with.
