It took a while to know how good Vandy would be for next year, since star guard Tanner’s NBA Draft decision went down to the deadline. But his decision to return instantly makes them a top-20 team nationally for the 2026-27 campaign and puts them in the mix for a top-4 spot in the SEC standings.
With the rest of the core rotation being seniors last year, the Commodores had to rebuild the supporting cast. They did fairly well, with Barrett and Williams-Adams being proven SEC products, while Glass is coming off a strong freshman year in the WCC, leading Washington State in scoring. Dak and Buyuktuncel also bring high-major experience in the frontcourt.
Like with other SEC Basketball teams, bringing back your star scorer automatically makes it a successful offseason. But with Tanner being the guy you bring back, Vanderbilt should feel good about remaining a legit threat in the conference and closer to the top than the bottom.
