One of the most underrated moves in the SEC this offseason was Mississippi State keeping Hubbard for a fourth year. He’s set to be the program’s all-time leading scorer next season and is one of the best individual scorers in all of college basketball. He’ll have a completely new supporting cast next to him, which can only be a good thing after last season’s rough patches.
In the frontcourt, Okafor was a coup for the Bulldogs after originally committing to Ole Miss. Bassong and Sanders add depth, while Reed is a top-100 center prospect. Simpkins is the most proven high-major player, while Johnson is a solid perimeter scorer from Conference USA.
Just getting Hubbard back gives Mississippi State a good grade. Is the roster good enough to get back to the postseason? It’s unlikely on paper right now. But they did the most important thing, which gives them a chance.
