5. Tennessee (22-5)

There’s been a lot to love about Tennessee in past seasons and their defense is always top notch. The story isn’t much different this year, though a few new faces have done wonders on both sides of the ball, with transfers like Chaz Lanier and Igor Milicic Jr. coming to Knoxville and hitting their stride. Tennessee has had their fair share of challenges in this tough SEC but they got another emphatic win this week.

The Volunteers only played once, getting a great weekend win at Texas A&M, topping the Aggies 77-69 for another Top 10 victory. As previously mentioned, Lanier keeps being a gift for Tennessee with a 30-point performance, including 8 of 13 from outside the arc. Overall the Volunteers played a great game on the road and shot the ball well.

The shooting has honestly been hot and cold in recent weeks for the Volunteers but this team showed up when needed in College Station. With how this defense can play, Tennessee has legitimate potential deep into the postseason especially if those shotmakers are doing their thing. Lanier and company have their work cut out for them in the weeks to follow, including a matchup with Alabama next weekend.
