Cameron Indoor showdown headlines loaded 2026 slate
The two programs have met nine times previously, with Duke holding a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series. The Blue Devils won the most recent meeting 110-67 at Madison Square Garden during the 2024-25 season, while Illinois owns two wins all-time at Cameron Indoor Stadium, including an 83-68 victory during the 2020 season.
Illinois enters the matchup coming off a Final Four appearance under Brad Underwood and is expected to return several key contributors from that team, including David Mirkovic, Tomislav Ivisic, Zvonimir Ivisic, and potentially Andrej Stojakovic if he withdraws from the NBA Draft process.
Duke is also expected to enter the 2026-27 season among the nation’s top teams after a 35-3 campaign and Elite Eight appearance last season under Jon Scheyer.
The Blue Devils are set to return several rotational pieces, including Patrick Ngongba II, Caleb Foster, Cayden Boozer, and Dame Sarr while also bringing in another highly ranked recruiting class.
Illinois building one of the nation’s toughest schedules
The Duke series adds to an already loaded nonconference schedule for Illinois. The Illini are also scheduled to face UConn at the United Center, travel to Texas Tech and meet Missouri Tigers in the annual Braggin’ Rights game.
Underwood has consistently scheduled aggressively during his tenure in Champaign, and the addition of Duke gives Illinois another high-profile nonconference opportunity before Big Ten play begins.
Duke continues stacking marquee matchups
Duke continues adding major nonconference games as well following the program’s recently announced scheduling partnership with Amazon for select neutral-site contests.
With Illinois and Duke both expected to begin the 2026-27 season near the top of the national rankings, the November matchup in Durham is already shaping up as one of the premier games of next season’s nonconference calendar.
Both programs will look to wrap up their non-conference slate and then see what the grueling conference schedule looks like in their respective conferences.
