Allen Fieldhouse will not host a college basketball game this weekend, but Kansas could still earn an important victory.
Class of 2027 prospects Malachi Jordan and Jalen White are scheduled to take official visits to Lawrence from Sept. 11 through Sept. 13. Class of 2028 guard Parker McDaniel is also expected to make an unofficial visit.
The weekend arrives at a critical time for Bill Self.
Kansas is rebuilding its 2027 class after losing a commitment from highly regarded forward Javon Bardwell in August. The Jayhawks currently have no commitment in the cycle, making Jordan and White two especially important visitors.
The Kansas City Star reported Wednesday that both wings are set to visit, while a Kansas recruiting tracker identified Jordan as the weekend’s biggest name.
Malachi Jordan Will Have Options After Kansas
Jordan is a 6-foot-7 wing from Prolific Prep who is widely ranked among the nation’s top 20 prospects. His combination of size, strength and versatility has produced a loaded list of finalists.
Kansas is competing with Alabama, Ohio State, Tennessee, UConn, USC, Vanderbilt and Washington. Jordan already visited Washington and USC, and his remaining schedule includes trips to Vanderbilt, Tennessee and UConn.
That competition increases the importance of this weekend. Kansas will have to make a memorable impression because Jordan will experience several other high-profile environments before completing his visits.
White brings great talent
White is not as highly ranked, but dismissing him as the second name on the guest list would be a mistake.
The 6-foot-7 Bella Vista Prep wing is ranked No. 73 in the ESPN 100. His size gives him the flexibility to play multiple perimeter positions, and he could become the type of prospect whose recruitment expands significantly during his senior season.
Kansas also has another major recruiting weekend approaching. Four-star power forward Zion Green, a 6-foot-9 top-40 prospect, is scheduled to visit Lawrence from Sept. 18 through Sept. 20.
The Jayhawks have already hosted top point guard Antonio Pemberton and 6-foot-8 Real Madrid prospect Fabian Kayser during this recruiting period. That activity shows Self is attacking the empty class from several directions.
Rock Chalk?
Kansas does not need to receive a commitment before Jordan and White leave campus. Official visits are often only one step in a long recruitment.
However, Self needs the Jayhawks to become serious finalists for the players who experience Lawrence this fall.
Kansas enters the weekend without a 2027 commitment. A successful visit from Jordan or White could change the entire direction of the class.
