We’re in unprecedented times for Robert Morris in the Horizon League, as with a week left in the regular season, they have a chance to win the regular-season title and a 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. They only have one game this week and the others have two games, so there’s plenty to be decided still on Thursday and Saturday.
Here’s a look at the biggest storylines to watch for Colonial fans.
Taking on IU Indy
The only thing keeping RMU from at least a share of the regular season title is IU Indy (9-20, 5-13), who the Colonials defeated by a whopping 53 points in their first matchup at home. The Jaguars have played better since, including road wins over Youngstown State and Detroit Mercy.

Thankfully everybody exited the bus in time. Some players and staff members lost their wallets and phones. All the team gear burned up.

The team had a real scare last weekend when the bus caught on fire, destroying many of their belongings. Look for the team and community to rally on Thursday night when they play Robert Morris and give them a much tougher fight than they did the first go-around.
Cleveland State’s tough last two games
RMU got great news with Cleveland State losing at Oakland to fall out of first place. And the Vikings have one more road game, taking on an inconsistent yet potent Wright State Raiders. If they lose and RMU wins, then the Colonials are the 1 seed and HL champions. But even if Cleveland State gets past that game, they still have a home battle with Fort-Wayne, one of the other top teams in the conference. Based on how Cleveland State has played in the past few weeks, they’ll be underdogs in terms of pulling off the sweep.
Rooting for Milwaukee Panthers to win and Purdue-Fort Wayne to lose
But what happens if Cleveland State wins both games and we have a tie at the top? Since RMU and the Vikings split against each other, it would come down to the best records against the top teams in the standings. Both also split against YSU so it’s about whoever finishes higher in the standings between Milwaukee (who RMU swept) and Fort Wayne (who Cleveland State would sweep).
Right now, both teams are 12-6 in the standings. However, Fort Wayne would automatically have to lose a game this week for Cleveland St to even have a shot, ironically. If the Panthers sweep Oakland and Detroit Mercy at home, then RMU would end up as a 1 seed. Otherwise, they’d need Fort Wayne to lose to Northern Kentucky at home.
Anthony Roy’s status with Green Bay
One hidden storyline that affects Robert Morris is what might happen at Green Bay. Leading scorer Anthony Roy (25.7 ppg) has been out for the last two months with a leg injury. There’s been talk about him potentially returning before the start of the tournament, so we could see him this week. The reason why that impacts RMU is that the Phoenix is locked as the 11 seed. If Roy returns and they upset whoever the 6 seed is in the first round of the tournament, they’d automatically play the Colonials because the matchups are reset each round, with the highest and lowest seeds facing off. Green Bay, with a healthy Roy, is very different from what the Colonials have seen with them this season.
