Oklahoma (16-8) (NET: 49)
4-7 (Q1), 3-1 (Q2), 2-0 (Q3), 7-0 (Q4)
After starting the season 13-0, the Sooners earned national relevance, but reality set in when SEC play began in January. You can tell from their record that they’re struggling in league play, but has Porter Moser’s team done enough to stay in the Tournament field?
They weren’t playing a weak nonconference schedule, getting three Quad 1 wins before league play, including impressive showings against Arizona and Louisville at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Further success came against Michigan in mid-December and at Arkansas a few weeks into SEC play.
The problem isn’t necessarily the losses, as the worst is a home loss to Quad 2 Texas in mid-January. The problem is that the Sooners aren’t winning against the contenders in the SEC. They’ve lost five games by double figures, including each of their last three efforts.
At their current trajectory, you can expect Oklahoma to miss the NCAA Tournament. The wins are great but they cannot just keep losing every game against a strong SEC team. The Sooners need to make an impression before the season ends, with six more Quad 1 chances dotting their schedule.
