Trent Perry is a 6’4 guard originally from the state of Texas, who is a consensus four-star prospect in the 2026 college basketball recruiting class. Ranked in the top 100 by 247Sports, he boasts an all-around game that enables him to have a two-way impact, featuring quality defense and rebounding, along with a growing offensive game.

Earlier this month, Perry’s list of options was all but official, with a set of teams setting up visits for the next few weeks and months. Will one of these six programs land Perry’s commitment in the future? Here’s a closer look at how he’d fit with each of them.

Maryland Terrapins

Former Texas A&M HC Buzz Williams was after Perry before and still is in the mix. But does Maryland make sense for him? Even if 5-star combo guard prospect Darius Adams isn’t around for more than one year, the Terps still have four-star guards Jaziah Harper and class of 2026 commit, Austin Brown. With frontcourt being more of a need in the future classes, there’s a chance Maryland doesn’t remain a finalist for him.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

OK State landed a ton of perimeter players via the portal this offseason, including several with multiple years of eligibility. Guys such as Vyctorius Miller (LSU) and Isaiah Coleman (Seton Hall) will be lead guards for multiple years, and the team also has four-star Ryan Cotty. The Cowboys are close enough for Perry to stay close to home, and playing time should be available early on.

Penn State Nittany Lions

The Nittany Lions are in rebuild mode, with most of their roster consisting of underclassmen. But even with senior Josh Reed gone after next year, there’s already a bunch of guards waiting in the wings, including four-star class of 2026 commit Dionycius Bakare. Given that there is no clear path to playing time and the program is far from winning, Penn State doesn’t make a ton of sense here.

Sacramento State Hornets

The program has been looking to make a splash throughout its athletic department. On the basketball side, they landed a notable HC in Mike Bibby, along with adding transfers such as former five-star prospect Mikey Williams. Perry would get a large role as a freshman and could potentially dominate the Big Sky. That would be the main selling point compared to the other options.

TCU Horned Frogs

TCU has a good amount of depth at the two-spot, as they landed transfers Tanner Toolson and Liutauras Lelevicius, along with incoming four-star guard commit, Kayden Edwards. As a local option, Perry could be a good fit for the program and give them a needed offensive weapon.

Texas A&M Aggies

The Aggies are another local option, this time with a new HC in Bucky McMillian. There’s not too much depth on the perimeter off-ball outside of senior guard Marcus Hill, who is only around for one year. “Bucky Ball” was a highly effective offensive system in the SoCon, and if it works in the SEC, it could be a very appealing option for Perry and other future recruits.
