When Coach Dusty May took over the Michigan Basketball program, the hope was that the talent level will remain fairly high as it did in the Juwan Howard era. They were landing plenty of top-100 players but for one reason or another, it wasn't working out.
Although they had some good pickups in the transfer portal to rebuild the 2024-25 roster, the Wolverines weren't having the same kind of luck with the 2025 recruiting class, missing out on a few targets. But their fortunes changed this past week, landing a pair of needed wings.
Winters Grady is a 6'5 "wing ranked in the top 100 overall. He's an efficient shooter and overall scorer from California who picked Michigan over the likes of USC and Oregon from out west. He's a natural scorer and proof that Coach May can recruit from all over the country.
In fact, he can land prospects internationally. The most recent pickup for the program was Oscar Goodman, a 6'7 combo forward from New Zealand. Recruiting services have him listed as a four-star caliber prospect and one of the top players from the international tournaments. He's one of the better pure shooters and has the size and play and guard both forward spots.
Michigan doesn't have a ton of depth on the wings, with seniors Nimari Burnett, Jace Howard and Alabama transfer Sam Walters set to play the minutes there. With Burnett gone after this season, that leaves room for these two players to come in and have an impact out the gate.
It's also an indication that Coach May is going to priortize shooting going forward at Michigan. It's how he was successful at Florida Atlantic in both Conference USA and the AAC. Time will tell how soon it'll translate in the Big Ten once these two arrives.
