Jerome Tang will be on the hot seat after the season
Note that I did not say Fired. I believe that coach Tang has built up enough goodwill from the Elite Eight run that he will get time to fix this, but this year has the makings of another year where Kansas State doesn’t live up to expectations. They have already lost games to Liberty and LSU which are not bad losses by any means, but they are games that many expect Kansas State to win.
Coach Tang went out and got guys to help finish near the top of the Big 12 again, like Achor Achor, Dug McDaniel, Coleman Hawkins, and Brendan Hausen. The depth is better this year, but the Wildcats are far too inconsistent to reach their goals.
UTRGV will be the biggest threat to McNeese in the Southland
If you have been paying attention and watching low-major basketball, you all know this take is not all that hot. The Vaqueros have been very impressive this year. They are 4-3, but their three losses were to Nebraska by 20, but that game was a 5-point game with less than 10 minutes left, Creighton by 13, and Wisconsin by 2 points. UT Rio Grande Valley has won the other four games by 50, 20, 10, and 25, respectively.
Not only are they keeping games against Power 5 teams close, but they are also blowing out other low-major teams. The Vaqueros can shoot, are old, have a ton of experience, and play good defense. They are going to be a factor in the Southland race and may get the upset and make the NCAA tournament.
