Walter Clayton - Florida Gators

The guard has been one of the best guards in the country over the last three years but he doesn’t get noticed nearly as much as he should. Clayton had one of the best single seasons in Gators history with his 633 points scored. He scored 33 points last season in the NCAA tournament against Colorado. He was not a preseason first team all conference player or a finalist for Player of the Year, or any national awards for guards. Clayton is just quietly putting up huge numbers for an undefeated team this year. He is averaging 18 a game on 45% shooting, 36% from deep, is automatic from the line, and is adding 4 assists per night. Florida doesn’t care if he gets noticed, you better hope he doesn’t play your team.

Rj Luis - St. John’s Red Storm

Coach Pitino will always get most of the recognition for St. John’s but Luis has become a star in a loaded lineup. The Red Storm have a lot of talent on their team and Luis is the best of all of them currently. The guard is having a breakout year for one of the top teams in the Big East. He is putting up the best numbers of his career and looking more like a first team all conference player after every game. Luis is averaging 17 points a game and is doing it on almost 50% shooting from the floor. He is a great rebounder and has improved his passing and shooting immensely. Luis is the best player for the Red Storm.

Jaland Lowe - Pittsburgh Panthers

The point guard is one of my favorite players to watch in basketball, and he stuffs the stat sheet every night. He is a sophomore surrounded by two big-name Senior guards who are taking the spotlight from Lowe, but anyone who is a Pitt fan will tell you that Lowe is their best player. His offensive efficiency numbers are down this year, but he is averaging 17 points per game, with a high volume. It is his ability to rebound and pass that makes him special. His 5 rebounds and 6 assists per game are what set him apart from almost everyone on this list. Not many are doing that from the guard position.
