We’ve barely scratched the surface but the college basketball season has officially begun. Another exciting season has already arrived and will deliver nearly five months of games and unforgettable moments until we crown another champion in early April. The calendar still reads November so it’s far too early to think about that, but you know that postseason success is already on the minds of so many programs and people.
Resumes and reputations aren’t fully built or destroyed in early November, but this is still an important time in the season. Teams are starting to understand their new lineups and rotations, especially in this era of the transfer portal. Some programs, even some of the best in the nation, saw complete turnover in their lineups and these new players are still learning to play with each other, as we’re just a few games into the season for each school.
Again, it’s far too early to make overarching conclusions about the sport after just a few days, though we have already seen some incredible games, amazing debuts, and head scratching performances all the same. After months of predictions and expectations in the preseason, these teams are putting their talent out on the court and we’ve already had a few surprises across the country.
As always, we’re focused on the best of the best and this is the first regular season update to our Top 25 rankings. This list always changes rapidly during the season, though movement is minimal after just one week of play. We’ll consider everything we’ve seen from these teams as these coaches adjust to new lineups and rule changes and rank who we consider the best teams in the nation right now. We’ll see what we’ve learned and if everyone agrees with our initial takes.
