5. Michigan (1-0)
There weren’t too many complaints in Ann Arbor last season as Dusty May took control of the program and turned the Wolverines back into Big Ten contenders right off the bat. Maintaining that momentum is always the hard part, even at a program like Michigan, but May and his staff landed an absolutely loaded transfer class that already has the Wolverines looking like a top team this season.
Michigan’s first test of the season came on opening night and the offense really exploded onto the scene, outlasting Oakland in a 121-78 victory. The Wolverines shot 64% from the field and 53% from outside the arc, with seven players hitting double figures. Morez Johnson Jr. starred with 24 points in his Wolverines debut while Trey McKenney added 21 points off the bench.
It was just the one game in the opening week for the Wolverines but we got a taste for what this offense can produce this season. This is another team that has immense talent but we wondered how that new talent was going to come together. Clearly May’s crew has the size and athleticism to be a major factor this season, and we’ll see how they fare away from home against Wake Forest and TCU in this upcoming week.
