With the talent returning in Storrs this year, there are many good reasons why the Huskies are ranked this high and among the favorites to cut down the nets several months from now. Dan Hurley is no stranger to that level of success with those recent national titles and his newest crew of talented players is already showing why that could become a possibility again.

While the Huskies didn’t play their best game on opening night, they still won 79-55 over New Haven. Alex Karaban led with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Solo Ball added 18 points in the victory. The vibes were inherently different on Friday, as the Huskies dominated UMass Lowell from start to finish in a 110-47 bludgeoning. Seven UConn players were in double figures, led by 20 points and 12 rebounds from Tarris Reed Jr. in an explosive team effort.

The three players were mentioned above are all returning talent and Hurley is excited about what this team can do in the months ahead. UConn’s rotation is filled with talent, size, and athleticism and this could be another special season if the offense and defense can hum like on Friday night. While the start to the season was relatively drama-free, there’s a big matchup against BYU waiting next weekend that will tell us a lot early about these Huskies.
