21. Rutgers (4-0)
Last season wasn’t great at Rutgers but Steve Pikiell knew that this year would be much better. Helming a program overall in greater shape since his arrival, Pikiell outdid himself by added 5-star freshman Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper and the Scarlet Knights are certainly showcasing their talents in the opening weeks of this season.
While the result doesn’t exactly scream greatness, Rutgers beat Merrimack 74-63 in their only game of the week. Finally healthy and on the court, Bailey had 23 points and 10 rebounds in his second collegiate game while Harper added 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. This is more about just box scores, as the two freshmen are already making great plays for the Scarlet Knights and look very formidable already.
With all of that being said, Rutgers hasn’t faced a tough foe yet this season, with all four of their games being home games against local mid-majors. Big Ten play will obviously present much more rigorous challenges for the two elite prospects and the other talent on this roster, but Rutgers doesn’t have to wait that long. Sunday marks their first road game at Kennesaw State before heading to Las Vegas for the Players Era Festival, including a massive challenge against Alabama.
