6. Kentucky
The Wildcats named Mark Pope as head coach just over a year ago and haven’t yet had any reason to regret that decision. The former Kentucky captain and national champion got off on the right foot, leading the Wildcats to the Sweet Sixteen with a roster completely built using the transfer portal. The Wildcats accumulated talent last offseason and have done even more of that this year, with Kentucky now owning one of the nation’s most impressive rotations.
Otega Oweh was last season’s leading scorer, and he recently announced his return for one more season as a Wildcat. Pope’s staff has also heavily worked the portal, adding formidable center Jayden Quaintance, talented point guard Jaland Lowe, and national champion Denzel Aberdeen among others. Also, consider the influx of young talent as three 4-stars join a deep rotation.
When the dust settles and the season actually begins, this talented crew of players will certainly have a target on their back. Pope has proved his potential in his first season leading the Wildcats and should have even more firepower at his disposal this season. There’s a boatload of big men, while Aberdeen, Lowe, and Oweh are a fantastic trio of scorers and ball handlers that should have Kentucky among the top teams in the nation.
