6. Florida (12-0)
Prior to this week, Florida had won each of their ten games by double figures, and while that trend did not continue they are clearly still off to a perfect start. The Gators have a strong lineup that plays smart offense and controls the game, as evident in big wins over Florida State, Arizona State, and others in nonconference play.
They got their eleventh win in Charlotte, playing a talented North Carolina squad at the Jumpman Invitational on Tuesday night. The 90-84 win saw 22 points and 6 rebounds from Will Richard while Alijah Martin added 19 points in another fine effort. These Gators saw action again Saturday, winning a 99-45 laugher over North Florida in a game that was completely drama-free. Richard scored 26 points while three different players had double-doubles.
Twelve games into a splendidly perfect season, the Gators have answered every call to this point, but you have to wonder about the level of competition. That North Carolina team was the best team they’ve faced to this point in the season and they will be significantly challenged when SEC starts after New Year’s. Still, we have no reason to doubt Todd Golden’s team and their talent and they certainly won’t struggle with their final tune-up against Stetson next week.
