Arkansas
It’s a brand new era at Arkansas with the offseason hiring of John Calipari from Kentucky. He and his new staff spent the offseason reworking this Razorbacks roster, with Trevon Brazile the only real weapon back from last season. As a result of the talent brought into the program, Arkansas entered the season with actual expectations, though there’s always reason for pause with teams completely reinventing themselves.
After beginning the season with a solid win over Lipscomb, Arkansas’s first loss of the year came in a tough environment against a fellow ranked opponent, falling by 5 points in Dallas to Baylor back on Saturday night. The game was a tough battle and the Razorbacks were right there in the waning moments, but just didn’t have enough. The 3-point offense hasn’t been there yet through two games while Baylor’s frontcourt certainly won them that game on Saturday.
Cautious optimism is the name of the game in Fayetteville this season and it’s really hard to make any conclusions after just one week of play. The Razorbacks definitely need more from additions like Johnell Davis and Jonas Aidoo, but freshman Boogie Fland has been a very bright light two games into the season. Like mentioned earlier, the long-range shooting has to be better, as the Razorbacks actually rank 346th in the nation in 3-point shooting through one week of play, but it may be too early to call which way this season will go.
