Texas A&M

Basketball at Texas A&M has looked better in recent years, with Buzz Williams doing a solid job rebuilding success for the Aggies. Offseason changes are inevitable, but the returns of Wade Taylor IV and Henry Coleman have expectations raised in College Station. The Aggies weren’t ranked in the preseason on some sort of fluke, though they certainly didn’t live up to those expectations on opening night.

That night provided an early loss, as Texas A&M fell by 3 points on the road against UCF. On the surface, a road loss against a Big 12 team isn’t a disaster, though this certainly isn’t a top-tier Big 12 program. What’s worse is that this is a game that the Aggies easily could have won, controlling it throughout. Their offense played much better later in the week against mid-majors, but just couldn’t get enough done in the paint against the Knights.

Texas A&M has now played three games and frankly haven’t looked bad in any of those performances. With Zhuric Phelps putting up nice numbers, it’s easy to figure that the Aggies could have won on opening night had he not missed that game due to injury. We’re not selling on the Aggies and there’s still a lot of potential with this lineup, though they’ll have to show us something against Ohio State later this week or this promising season is going to have a pretty big hole in it early.
