We’re suddenly more than halfway through January, and before you know it, it’ll be time for March Madness. The NCAA basketball season might be a slow burn, but we’re rapidly approaching the point of this season where things get really interesting. In all reality, there’s never really a quiet moment in this sport and even the games to kick off the season have flair and intrigue.
What makes these recent weeks exciting is that conference play is fully underway and we’re seeing more than two dozen conferences battling on a daily basis. Rivalries are reengaging, players are showing off their talents, and we’re starting to get a firmer idea on which teams may be in the Big Dance in a few months. With that being said, there’s also still plenty of time left for runs to be made and legacies to be born.
Nothing is black and white in this sport and life is different for each school and each athlete. Nearly every day there seems to be a ranked SEC team showcasing their talents while some pretty interesting basketball is happening in those underrated mid-major leagues. We’ve also seen conferences like the ACC filled with disappointing performances, raising questions about who exactly will represent that conference in the NCAA Tournament.
With all of these things considered, we’re focusing on the cream of the crop once again and making our weekly adjustments to the Top 25 rankings. Life is very uneven in one conference versus another, or even between two similar schools, and we’ve done our best to reflect which teams we believe are most worthy of inclusion. We’ll take our usual deep dive into recent results and what lies ahead for each of these schools, knowing full well that everything could change by this time next week.
