14. Oklahoma (9-0)

When the season began, Oklahoma wasn’t exactly receiving national attention. Not much was expected from this program in their first year in the SEC, especially after the past few years had seen them a few tiers behind the top teams in the Big 12. Five weeks of play doesn’t tell a full story, but the early news is good out of Norman and kept getting better this week.

Right after winning the Battle 4 Atlantis, the Sooners got another nice win, beating Georgia Tech 76-61 on Tuesday as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge. Jeremiah Fears led the team with 18 points, while Jalon Moore added 15 points and 11 rebounds to continue his hot start to the year. Saturday was a similar result, with the Sooners doing enough to beat Alcorn State 94-78 for their ninth straight win. Despite subpar defensive play, Oklahoma won comfortably with a 20-point effort from Moore.

We’re still in the process of figuring out how good Oklahoma is and can be this season. Porter Moser’s team underwhelmed in recent seasons and find themselves running blind into an extremely tough SEC in a few weeks. For now, they’ve passed all those initial tests and remain one of the few unbeaten teams in the nation. A matchup with rival Oklahoma State stands between them and a 10-0 start next week.
