1. Auburn (21-2)
Much of this college basketball season has progressed with the idea that Auburn was the best team in the nation. After all their resume speaks for itself as this team keeps stockpiling sensational performances, with wins over Houston, Iowa State, Purdue, Tennessee, and many others already under their belt. Can anyone really slow down these Tigers either now or during the Big Dance?
The answer to that question was not Oklahoma, as Auburn handled the Sooners in a 98-70 win on Tuesday night. Johni Broome had 15 points and 6 assists in another nice showing, with Auburn shooting nearly 70% from inside the arc as a team. They would finally falter on Saturday, losing 90-81 against Florida for their first loss in league play. Miles Kelly starred with 22 points and Broome had his latest double-double, but the Gators’ offense was sensational in the upset.
Virtually nothing changes about how we view Auburn even after that tough loss against a Top 10 team. The Tigers can and will hang in every game this season, regardless of their rough showing on defense this past weekend. Still 9-1 in the SEC, every goal Auburn has is still right there in front of them and they have a major chance to right the ship this week with road games at Vanderbilt and Alabama.
Thus completes another week diving into our Top 25, keeping in mind that a lot can still change in the coming weeks before March Madness. Do you agree with the teams we included and how we ranked them this week or was there someone more deserving left out of the fold?
