22. Utah State (16-1)

All that stands between Utah State and having a perfect record right now is one or two more shots falling in a December home loss against UC San Diego. The Aggies are playing inspired basketball all season, with some great wins early and then a nice run of road wins at the end of December. They’ve gotten off to a perfect start in MWC play and kept that going with some drama this week.

The week began with another road win, with the Aggies holding on for an 85-78 win at San Jose State. Mason Falslev had 17 points and 7 rebounds on a day where Utah State shot 51% from the field. Saturday’s performance was far more dramatic, battling back and holding on for an 81-79 home win over Boise State. Ian Martinez not only led with 18 points but had the 4-point play in the final seconds to get the victory.

The Aggies keep getting the job done even when their defense has relented at times in these last three games. Regardless, they’re putting together an awesome resume and certainly look like the class of the MWC, sitting pretty at 6-0. They’re back on the road at UNLV for their only test next week and are looking to lock down their spot in March Madness sooner rather than later.
