9. Oklahoma Sooners - 12-0
Entering the season, the Sooners were picked to finish near the bottom of the SEC due to a roster that, on paper, lacked any kind of starpower. However, a big star has emerged in the non-con in Jeremiah Fears, a reclassed late freshman pickup who, in a class of first-year starts, has shined with 18.0 ppg and 4.7 apg.
Another player who has played at an All-SEC level is Jalon Moore, the returning starter putting up 17.0 ppg. Two transfer guards who have been impactful as well as Duke Miles (12.1 ppg) and Kobe Elvis (9.8 ppg and 3.6 apg), who also have been great from the three-point line.
After four easy wins to open the season, Oklahoma got onto the national radar in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, winning all three games for the surprise championship. They defeated Providence, Arizona, and Louisville during that week, followed by victories over OK State and Michigan to add to its resume.
The Sooners have a home game with Praire View A&M before the start of SEC play, where they take on Alabama on the road. That will be the biggest test of the season for Oklahoma, followed by matchups with Texas A&M and Georgia. Some aren’t full believers in this team, so a slow start may prove them right.
