10. Texas A&M (12-2)
What this recent winning streak has assured us is that this Texas A&M team can hang with any team in the nation when they’re healthy and firing on all cylinders. That current streak includes wins over Creighton, Purdue, and Texas Tech, and it’s gotten a little longer now that SEC play has begun.
The Aggies stayed at home to open league play on Saturday night and got a feisty Texas squad but took care of business with a strong second half performance. Texas A&M won 80-60 despite shooting just 2 of 19 from outside the arc. Zhuric Phelps had 18 points and 7 rebounds while Wade Taylor IV continued a brilliant season with a 13-point effort despite some rough shooting.
That was not the first time this season that the Aggies beat a solid team while shooting poorly from 3-point, though it’s a trend they certainly don’t want to continue. Texas A&M has shown that they can play great on both sides of the ball and beat great teams, but they’ll need a little more consistency especially at these hostile road environments in the SEC. The first one of those comes Wednesday at Oklahoma though Saturday’s home date with Alabama won’t exactly be cakewalk either.
