7. Marquette (13-2)

There’s a lot of basketball to be played this season in the Big East but it’s become clear that Marquette is again one of the league’s top teams. The Golden Eagles had great success during nonconference play, with numerous resume-building wins and a pair of very forgivable road losses. Now that league play has begun, Marquette is really taking advantage of their familiar foes.

Back on the court after the long holiday break, Marquette got a solid road win on Tuesday, triumphing 78-50 against Providence. Kam Jones starred with 18 points and 10 assists while Stevie Mitchell added 14 points and 5 steals in the solid win. The Golden Eagles did battle with a stronger team Friday night but prevailed 79-71 over Creighton. Jones was again the notable centerpiece, putting up 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists in Marquette’s fourth straight victory.

Now boasting three true road wins, including two in league play, Marquette keeps winning the games in front of them and now sit 4-0 in the Big East. It’s been a great early start for a deeply-talented team that knows how to win and how to play with each other. The Golden Eagles have looked brilliant and have a real chance to stockpile this success, as their schedule isn’t too hard for the rest of January. As such, next week’s only test is at home against Georgetown.
