Considering that Huff, who led all of college basketball in made field goals before a season-ending lower-leg injury, didn’t go through the NBA Draft process, Gonzaga shouldn’t have had to deal with issues there. However, they suffered a surprise blow when German guard commit Jack Kayil opted to stay in the draft, likely as a second-round pick.
There was a real chance that Kayil was going to start in the backcourt at Gonzaga, and there aren’t many options better than him available. That puts even more pressure on former five-star prospect Harwell to have a breakout sophomore year, while Fogle and Saint-Supery have high ceilings after good first years. They’ll still need to get Almansa cleared, and depth is a concern, but the Bulldogs have another team with Sweet 16 potential.
