NCAA Basketball: Picks for Day 74 of 2024-25 season featuring Villanova vs Georgetown

I am back after a weekend hiatus and ready to watch College Basketball all day long. There are mid and low major conferences getting the action started in mid afternoon and then there is basketball on all day. The power conferences play later on in the day and one game stands out above the rest.

I apologize to those of you who were expecting my articles every day last week, but I had some family things come up and needed to take a break. I didn’t watch much Basketball over the weekend, but I am going to start fresh again today. There were some big results on Sunday even though there were 11 total games. Maryland beat Nebraska in College Park. The Huskers have now lost 4 in a row and desperately need any wins. Michigan State won a close game against Illinois to stay undefeated in the Big Ten.  Michigan beat Northwestern in overtime.

There was one very notable upset yesterday as well. TCU beat Baylor in Waco. The Horned Frogs had not been having a good year but pick up a huge road win over a good Baylor team. This is not the normal Scott Drew team in Waco, but they still were expected to beat TCU. That was it for the upsets. Everything else was an expected result.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day everyone. If you are not working and like to watch low and mid major basketball, then today is for you. There are basketball games on all day long mostly in the NEC and the CAA.  There is a Big Ten game later in the day and a Big East game later as well. Outside of that, the day is dominated by the mid-major conferences. Picks for day 74 January 20, 2025, are below.

The Big East has the best game of the day. Villanova hosts Georgetown. The Hoyas started off strong in the Big East but have since faltered. Georgetown most recently lost to DePaul ending the Blue Demons Big East losing streak.

Villanova is a bubble team that needs to win as many games as possible. That game should be a battle because both teams desperately need a win to feel good about themselves, and the Wildcats need to keep winning for their tournament resume. Enjoy the Hoops!
